LuxuryRetire exists because the good information on retiring abroad as an Indian was scattered, incomplete, or written for someone else entirely.
Most retirement planning resources assume you're American. Or British. They talk about Social Security, NHS pension transfers, 401k rollovers. None of that applies to you. So we built something that does.
LuxuryRetire started with a simple observation: the fastest-growing segment of Indians considering retirement abroad are people who've spent 25 to 30 years building real wealth — and who have very specific questions that generic expat blogs don't answer. Questions about FEMA. About DTAA treaties. About what happens to your PPF when you become an NRI. About which countries actually have Indian-speaking doctors. About whether you can bring your aging parents.
So we went and found those answers. And we kept finding them.
We research retirement destinations with the specificity that affluent Indian retirees need. That means going beyond cost-of-living tables (though we have those too) and getting into the texture of what life actually looks like. The quality of hospitals. The tax treaties that exist between India and the destination country. The real processing times for visas, not the official ones. The Indian community that's already there.
We built the tools on this site because we were tired of seeing people try to reverse-engineer their retirement corpus from vague advice. The calculator on our homepage uses real numbers. The visa matrix is updated when things change. The cost comparisons are for couples living decently, not backpackers.
And we maintain a directory of professionals who've worked with Indian clients specifically. Not just any immigration lawyer. The ones who understand the India-side implications of your move.
We don't represent any country's tourism board. We don't take money from visa agents or relocation companies to feature them in our guides. When we say Portugal is genuinely easier for most retirees than Spain, it's because the data says so, not because someone paid us to say it.
We're also not financial advisors. The calculators and guides on this site give you a framework. But your actual retirement planning should involve a qualified advisor who understands both your Indian portfolio and the tax landscape of wherever you're heading. We'll help you find one.
Typically: 50 to 65 years old. Net worth upward of ₹1 crore. Professionally accomplished. Used to doing things properly. They're not looking for the cheapest option. They're looking for the right one, with enough detail to make a genuinely informed decision.
Some are actively planning. Some are five years away and just starting to get oriented. Some have a spouse who needs convincing (the tools help with that). All of them are smart enough to know that the internet is full of outdated or agenda-driven information about this topic, and they're looking for something they can actually trust.
That's what we're trying to be.
Every guide on LuxuryRetire is written with a specific question in mind: what would an experienced, well-travelled Indian professional actually need to know about this? We don't write for search engines first. We write for people who've already done the basics and want the real story.
If you find something outdated, wrong, or missing, tell us. We'd rather know.
